About 120 graduates of Charles Sturt University (CSU) and relatives and friends will gather in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur this week-end to celebrate their academic achievements.

 

The graduates celebrating their hard work will include one of the University’s prominent and active academics, Associate Professor Rod McCulloch, who will receive his Doctor of Communication during the CSU graduation ceremony from 2.30pm on Sunday 1 November in the Shangri La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

 

With over 30 years experience in academia and the advertising and marketing communication industry in Australia and overseas, Associate Professor McCulloch is the Head of the School of Communication at CSU at Bathurst in Australia.

 

He is also actively involved in the development of national and trans-national programs and professional short courses for CSU and the University’s international partners.

 

His research doctorate entitled, An Assessment of Changing Graduate Attributes and Competencies in the Marketing Communication Profession follows over three years research and investigation both nationally and internationally into the evolving marketing and media communication industries. Associate Professor McCulloch looked at the impact of the advances of technology and changing consumer habits on the employment of graduates from marketing communication courses.

 

More than 170 graduates are eligible to receive their undergraduate and postgraduate awards from the Faculties of Arts, Business, Education and Science at CSU.

 

The University’s Chancellor Lawrie Willett, AO will present awards to graduates from accountancy, advertising, business, business administration, early childhood teaching, environmental management and conservation, finance, human resources, marketing, medical imaging and pathology degrees. The CSU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Ian Goulter will also attend the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

The occasional address will be delivered by Professor of Tourism, Bob McKercher from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong.

 

Professor McKercher began his academic career in 1990 at Charles Sturt University at Albury-Wodonga in Australia. Since then, he has published widely on a variety of cultural tourism, socio-cultural tourism, nature-based tourism, regional tourism development, tourism marketing and tourism education issues. Professor McKercher is a Fellow of the Council for Australian Tourism and Hospitality Education and he is listed in Who’s Who Asia.
