Stories of ‘first year out’ teaching.
In 2004, education graduates were asked to write about their ‘first year out’, which means their first year as a fully fledged teacher, teaching out in the wide world.
Their stories presented here are emotional, inspirational, illuminating and have been transforming.
They have an appeal that extends far beyond the interests of Charles Sturt University students, graduates and staff. Each of the writers has shared a part of themselves in describing the children, the schools and communities they work in.
The stories span 50 years of teacher education graduates from the training institution which began as Bathurst Teachers’ College in 1951, became Mitchell College of Advanced Education in the 1970s and is now Charles Sturt University.
We hope you get caught up in, appreciate and learn from their experiences and reflections.
