Home > Latest News > Health CSU paramedic expertise at UK uni 12 Aug 2009 .JPG) A leading Australian paramedic researcher and lecturer has returned to Charles Sturt University (CSU) after his inaugural visit to the United Kingdom following his appointment as the Visiting Professor of Pre-Hospital Care at Coventry University.Associate Professor Peter O’Meara, the Associate Head of the CSU School of Biomedical Sciences at Bathurst, is the first non-UK academic to be appointed to the three-year position.
Professor O’Meara says his appointment arose from the close ties established between the two universities through Professor Malcolm Woollard, Professor in Pre-Hospital and Emergency Care at Coventry University and Chair of the College of Paramedics in the UK.
The two academics are jointly researching the evaluation of UK ambulance systems and how they are responding to the demands of evidence-based practice and policy.
“This research hopes to determine the extent that UK ambulance services have changed their service delivery models, organisational structures and cultures,” Professor O’Meara said.
“We hope to complete a paper about this research - Influence of evidence on ambulance service policy and practice: a service evaluation - by the end of the year. This may have implications for ambulance services in Australia and around the world.”
The terms of my appointment at Coventry University include an expectation that I will contribute to the joint development of multi-centre research proposals, grant applications, international presentations and high-impact journal publications.
