Workshop: The Child's Voice in Healthcare Decisions

'The Child's Voice in Healthcare Decisions' is a one-day workshop being held at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Bathurst, on Saturday 28 April 2018 from 8.45am to 6pm.

The workshop will  examine how sick children’s preferences and perspectives are best ‘heard’ in treatment decisions made by parents and clinicians. It will address this issue from a range of disciplinary perspectives in probing the moral, clinical, and policy implications of considering the child’s voice in such decisions.

Speakers include;

  • Prof David Archard Professor of Philosophy, Queen’s University Belfast, and Chair of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics (UK)
  • Dr Joe Brierley Consultant Intensivist, Consultant in Bioethics, and Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London
  • Dr Mhairi Cowden Principal Policy Officer, Social Policy Unit, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Western Australia
  • Dr Rosalind McDougall Senior Lecturer in Health Ethics, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne, and Research Fellow in Ethics at the Children’s Bioethics Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne
  • Prof Linda Shields Professor of Rural Health, CSU
  • Prof Suzanne Uniacke Professor in Philosophy, CSU School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Cost of registration is $15.00 per person, with lunch and refreshments provided.
