CSU congratulates student’s world championship win

Sunday 5 Aug 2018

In the last week, Charles Sturt University (CSU) student Mr Liam Magennis has won the Individual Time Trial (ITT) and placed third in the Braga Portugal Road Race at the World University Cycling Championships 2018.

Mr Magennis, who is a member of the CSU Elite Athlete program, travelled to Portugal to compete in the World University Cycling Championships. The 21-year-old student has a strong record of high-performance becoming the 2017 under 23-year-old Oceania ITT champion.

CSU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Ms Jenny Roberts said, “Charles Sturt University takes great pride in students’ successes.

“It is great to be able to provide our elite athletes with an opportunity to represent the University and their country on the world stage,” Ms Roberts said.

Mr Magennis is one of four students representing Australia and Drapac Cycling. His travel to Portugal was supported by a CSU Elite Athlete program grant.

When not cycling, Mr Magennis is completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) at CSU in Port Macquarie.
