Charles Sturt University (CSU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Goulter, has welcomed Federal Government funding worth $3.5 million for Clinical Science teaching facilities on the University’s Orange Campus.

 

The funding was announced yesterday, Tuesday 15 May, by the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon. Julie Bishop, following broad announcements made by the Treasurer, Mr Peter Costello, in last week’s Federal Budget.

 

“This is excellent news for the University and the people of Orange,” Professor Goulter said.

 

“We are delighted that the Federal Government has again demonstrated that it is prepared to support rural Australians by enhancing its commitment to CSU as the leading university of inland Australia.

 

“This funding will provide the infrastructure necessary to support the growth of courses and student places in the School of Biomedical Sciences at CSU’s Orange Campus, where we offer degrees in medical sciences, biotechnology, pharmacy and the new Bachelor of Clinical Sciences,” he said.

 

Funding for the project will be $1.3 million in 2008 and $2.2 million in 2009. It is in addition to the $65.1 million announced in the Budget to establish CSU’s School of Dentistry and Oral Health, which will have one of its clinical teaching centres located at Orange.
