Charles Sturt University has today accepted the immediate resignation of Mr James Montgomery. Allegations against Mr Montgomery were published in Sydney's Daily Telegraph on 3 August 2005.

After being alerted to the allegations, Charles Sturt University suspended Mr Montgomery from employment, stating that it had sought to investigate the allegations against him.

The University has today referred the claims relating to military service to the Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshall Houston.

“The misrepresentation of military service is, in the University’s view, a serious allegation,” said CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter.

“We hope that the Defence Department will investigate this matter further.”
