A Charles Sturt University (CSU) academic has been elected to head the international body representing information professionals and academics.
Professor Lisa Given from CSU's School of Information Studies in Wagga Wagga will formally take up the role as president-elect of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) during its annual conference being held in Copenhagen, Denmark from Friday 14 to Tuesday 18 October.
Professor Given was selected by an international nominating committee and then elected by the Association's international membership.
ASIS&T is the industry body that advances the work of professionals, researchers and students in the information sciences.
Professor Given said, "As president, I will focus on deepening the Association's engagement with members across borders and further encourage the development of international chapters.
"I want to broaden the membership base across disciplines to extend the Association's profile and reach, and to foster research potential and research leadership.
"ASIS&T has been guiding and supporting the research and professional activities of information science for almost 80 years.
"It is an honour to be elected to this position where I will be able to contribute to shaping our focus as a field into the future and highlighting our great work here in Australia in library and information research and practice."
Professor Given is a Professor of Information Studies with research interests in individuals' information behaviours; users' experience of technology (including social media); research impact and engagement; qualitative research methods; and information use in the context of higher education.
