Charles Sturt University (CSU) has been named as the first Australian host of an international lecture at the National Library in Canberra held to promote the importance of information in the high technology age.
Professor of Information Studies at CSU, Lisa Given said, “This is the first time that the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) has awarded this lecture series to an institution outside of North America.”
Delivering the ASIS&T Lecture in Australia on Wednesday 21 March will be Canadian academic, Emeritus Professor Gloria Leckie from the University of Western Ontario.
Her free public lecture at the National Library of Australia, From Facebook to Twitter and Into the Cloud: Where is Library and Information Science in our Googleized World? will explore the meaning of libraries and information centres in today’s technological world.
“This is a very important topic for Australians, as individuals, as well as our schools, universities and information-based organisations. Dr Leckie will be exploring how shifts in technology, especially social media like Facebook, are changing the library and information professions. This is a topic with global significance,” Professor Given said.
The Society created this annual lecture series to promote the progress of information science and technology through one annual lecture delivered by a noted information scientist.
CSU’s School of Information Studies is hosting the ASIS&T Lecture. It is part of CSU’s Faculty of Education and is involved in teaching and research in information science and teacher librarianship.
Based in Wagga Wagga, Professor Given was appointed from Canada in 2011. Read more about Professor Given on CSU News here.
