A new health and wellbeing resource for the Parkes and Forbes communities will be launched on Wednesday 19 November.
The Parkes and Forbes Community Hub Website has been established by Charles Sturt University (CSU) students in the Specialist Integrated Community Engagement (SpICE) program.
Ms Priyam Mani, one of the students instrumental in establishing the website, said, "The SpICE program student team has worked with members of the Parkes and Forbes communities over the past year to develop the Parkes and Forbes Community Hub Website.
"The website aims to be a one-stop site for members of the Parkes and Forbes communities to seek general information about healthcare and well-being and provide them with resources and links to services within their communities.
"SpICE enhances the effectiveness of available resources and partnerships within the community between parents, carers, specialist professionals, and other services of the community, such as Parkes Neighbourhood Information Centre."
CSU SpICE project coordinator, Dr Ruth Beecham, describes the SpICE project as a sustainable community engagement program building knowledge and skills within rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
"This strengthens and engages the community to work together to ensure an increase in child, family and community wellbeing," Dr Beecham said.
"Through the SpICE program, our students build the capacity of community members which in turn provides benefit to communities. The Parkes and Forbes Community Hub is yet another example of this."
The SpICE team of CSU students launching the Parkes and Forbes Community Hub come from the disciplines of speech pathology, medical imaging, physiotherapy, environment science, and health and rehabilitation. The SpICE project students are Ms Haley Smith, Ms Hannah Bruhn, Ms Namrata Chikkerur, Ms Jane Yeow, Ms Joanne Hendy, Ms Hannah Jeffery, Ms Elise Wright, Ms Tayla Watson, Mr Dean Yamak, Ms Kate Nixon, Ms Priyam Mani, Ms Rosalind Fletcher, and Ms Kirby Skulander.
The Parkes and Forbes Community Hub Website launch is open to the general public and will be held in the Coventry Room at the Parkes Shire Library/Exhibition Centre at 11.30am Wednesday 19 November, to conclude at 1pm. The mayor of Parkes will attend the launch, but the mayor of Forbes is unable to attend.
