Environmentalists and all concerned about the fate of the planet are invited to an address and panel discussion at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie on Thursday 29 June from 6.00pm until 8.00pm.
The keynote address will be delivered by Australian author and public intellectual Charles Sturt Professor of Public Ethics Clive Hamilton, who is also the author of ‘Defiant Earth: The Fate of Humans in the Anthropocene.’
Professor Hamilton will begin the evening with a thought-provoking address about the fate of the planet, to be followed by a Q and A panel discussion with an esteemed line-up of panellists.
Charles Sturt Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Mark Evans said the event would focus on the conflict between human advancement and progress and the natural state of the world.
“The advancements of the modern day have become so life-changing that much of it has disrupted the sustainability of the natural world,” Professor Evans said.
“Professor Hamilton addresses some of these issues and what decision-makers and influencers might change to reduce some of the detrimental impacts these advancements are having on our planet.”
Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement in Port Macquarie Ms Kate Wood-Foye welcomed Professor Hamilton to the Port Macquarie campus.
“It has never been more critical to consider the impacts technological advancements and consumerism are having on our environment,” Ms Wood-Foye said.
“We are privileged to have Professor Hamilton offer his expertise for one evening in Port Macquarie and I encourage all who share the global concerns around climate change to come along and hear advice on how humans could do things differently.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the expert panellists questions during the Q and A.
The lecture: ‘An evening with Clive Hamilton, author of Defiant Earth: The Fate of Humans in the Anthropocene’ will be held on Thursday 29 June from 6.00pm until 8.00pm at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie, Charles Sturt Theatre - Building 802, 7 Major Innes Road.
Tickets are $15 each for members of the public. Charles Sturt staff and students enjoy free access.
Complimentary drinks and a grazing table also be available on arrival, followed by canapés post discussion
