- Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the three Bathurst radio stations are collaborating to commemorate the 2020 ANZAC Day with a 6am dawn service joint broadcast
Following the cancellation of the traditional ANZAC Day services on Saturday 25 April in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local Bathurst radio stations 2MCE and 2BS / B-Rock FM have united to promote an ANZAC Day dawn service ‘letterbox’ commemoration.
2BS is producing and sharing with 2MCE a seven-minute broadcast for the ANZAC Day dawn service and they invite community members to hold a candle while standing at their home letterboxes and listening to the service on their preferred device.
The commemoration broadcast at 6am on 2MCE, 2BS and B-Rock, and streamed online, will include The Last Post, The Ode, Reveille, Bathurst electorate MP Mr Paul Toole’s message, and The Lament.
Community radio station 2MCE at Charles Sturt University broadcasts to Bathurst and Orange, and produces National Radio News (NRN), which is broadcast to about 100 community radio stations around Australia.
Manager of community radio station 2MCE Ms Lisa McLean said, “Since we are required to keep physical distance to combat COVID-19, it’s even more important we can be socially connected on this important national day.
“As far as I’m aware this is the first time the three local Bathurst radio stations have collaborated.
“This is a good news story, and is a fantastic example of media working together in these difficult times,” Ms McLean said.
“ANZAC Day is an important day for our community to come together and honour all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations,” Ms McLean said.
“This year as we keep our physical distance to minimise contagion, it is even more important we remain socially connected.
“Participating in an ANZAC Day service in this unique way does ensure we are socially connected, and this is one really important way we can do this.”
“As 2MCE Station Manager, I’d like to thank Janeen Hosemans at 2BS / B-Rock for reaching out to 2MCE to ensure that our entire community can preserve the tradition of ANZAC Day in a unique but necessary way this year.”
2MCE listeners can tune in via 92.3 in Bathurst, and 94.7 in Orange, or via our website radio.2mce.org .
The promotional ads for ANZAC Day 2020 commenced on Saturday 28 March on 2MCE and 2BS and B-Rock to alert the public to this commemoration.
