- Charles Sturt University Professor Wayne Hudson is attempting to change how Australians understand their history in an evolving world by changing how they understand their past
The second instalment of a free, public lecture series by Charles Sturt University will explore the originality of Australia’s political thought.
‘A New History of Australian Political Thought’ forms part of the Provocations Public Lecture Series, where Researcher with the Charles Sturt Centre for Religion, Ethics and Society Professor Wayne Hudson will highlight why Australian political thought is more original than first claimed.
“People attending my lecture will learn which areas of our political thought require more research, and how we can develop our political thought in new directions,” Professor Hudson said.
The lecture, based on the researcher and author’s latest work, will be held in the Chapel at Charles Sturt University in Canberra on Thursday 15 June between 6pm and 7pm, as well as being livestreamed for those who can’t attend in person.
The audience will also have the chance to ask questions as part of a Q&A session and at the reception.
Professor Hudson has published 24 books and 84 refereed articles and book chapters as part of his research.
His latest written works will elaborate on the upcoming lecture, analysing not just why Australia’s political thought needs to be captured across history, but how to achieve that.
“We need to find strategies to help Australia understand how its political thinking is original, and what factors have influenced that thinking along the way,” Professor Hudson said.
Tickets are available for free online though Eventbrite.
The Provocations Public Lectures Series showcases Charles Sturt research with the aim of presenting new ways of thinking and investigating how concepts from the past can merge with those of today.
