'Well-liked and highly respected': Statement on death of Paramedicine graduate Steven Tougher

From Charles Sturt University Vice-Chancellor Professor Renée Leon:

I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of one of our recent Paramedicine graduates, Steven Tougher, in a tragic incident while on duty in Sydney on Friday.

Everyone in the Charles Sturt community wishes to express our heartfelt condolences to Steven’s family, friends and those who knew and worked with him at NSW Ambulance.

Steven has two qualifications from Charles Sturt, having firstly graduated from a Bachelor of Nursing in 2018 and then Paramedicine in 2021.  Steven was an active, well-liked and highly respected member of the online student community.

Charles Sturt graduates are making remarkable contributions in their chosen professions, and it is so very terrible for Steven’s life to be tragically ended. Any act of violence towards our dedicated healthcare professionals is unacceptable.

Some of you may be impacted directly or indirectly by this terrible event. We encourage you to support each other and encourage you to talk to someone about how you may be feeling: https://www.csu.edu.au/current-students/support/personal/counselling/external-resources.
