Parkinson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis patients in and around Albury-Wodonga are urgently needed to help complete a research study into the role of free radical chemicals and the inflammation they cause. Charles Sturt University (CSU) PhD student, Ms Diane Hughes, is investigating the protective role red blood cells may play in neutralising free radicals in the blood. Over the past eight months, Ms Hughes has found the inflammation and altered shape of red blood cells may be important in Parkinson's disease, while blood cell shapes with rheumatoid arthritis also appear different and so may affect blood flow. Ms Hughes is looking for 15 more people with Parkinson's disease and 15 with rheumatoid arthritis to help complete the study and better understand how both diseases work. To find out more about he study or to take part, contact Ms Hughes on mobile 0417 695 297 or send an email.
