Charles Sturt University is encouraging educators to join the movement for more inclusive, disability-affirming classrooms this festive season.

For a limited time, Charles Sturt’s flagship short course, Reimagining Inclusive Education is offering the gift of free registration to another, after an initial registration, emphasising the goal of inclusion and change.

This course, co-created with members of the community living with disability, is designed for anyone who teaches, parents, supports or leads in schools, as well as anyone passionate about working with  children with disability in educational settings.

Lecturer in Education in the Charles Sturt School of Education Dr Natalie Thompson, who co-created the course, said it provides the tools and insights needed to create classrooms that affirm the full spectrum of diversity and learner variability.

“Inclusive education isn’t just an ideal - it’s a necessity. These courses empower educators, families and leaders to create classroom environments where every student thrives,” Dr Thompson said.

“The courses are about reimagining what education can and should be.”

The Reimagining Inclusive Education short course is backed by rigorous research to bring real change by offering practical, disability-affirming and responsive approaches to streamline teacher workloads while focusing on creating inclusive, calm and creative classrooms where every child can flourish.

Dr Thompson said the free entry to another was the perfect opportunity to give a gift that makes a difference, by purchasing the course for oneself and ‘gifting’ a free spot to a teacher, parent, colleague or ally who shares your passion for inclusion.

“This isn’t about surface-level tweaks, it’s about shifting mindsets and practices to truly see and support every student,” Dr Thompson said.

“Together, we can ensure parents don’t have to fight for their children’s place in the classroom, and teachers feel prepared to foster belonging.”

The course is offered online for maximum flexibility and can be completed at a convenient time for the student over the next six months.

Enrolments are open now, with the offer ending at midnight, Wednesday 18 December.
