- Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie will host an Open Day on Sunday 30 July for prospective students, their families and the wider community
Prospective students hoping to study at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie can explore everything it has to offer as the campus opens its doors to the public this weekend.
The Charles Sturt Open Day will take place on Sunday 30 July from 10am to 2pm at the campus in Port Macquarie.
Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement (Port Macquarie) Ms Kate Wood-Foye said this year’s Open Day would give students a very real insight into university life at Charles Sturt, and career pathways to follow.
“Not only will students receive first-hand insights into courses, checking out campus facilities and other student experiences, but they will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from our industry partners,” Ms Wood-Foye said.
“We have an impressive list of industry attending this year, including major organisations such as Axiom Connected, Essential Energy, Mid North Coast Local Health District, and St Agnes Catholic Parish, as well as community partners such as Sunrise Rotary Club, Regional Australia Bank, and Port Surf Life Saving Club.
“This is an invaluable opportunity for students to meet and chat directly with experts in their chosen field, which could give them an exclusive insight into what the future of their industry looks like.”
Ms Wood-Foye said each Open Day will also assist those who have received early offers through the Charles Sturt Advantage Program (CSA), which provides a pathway into university for Year 12 students before completion of their HSC exams.
“We also encourage students looking to study online to register and attend so they can learn more about studying with Australia’s most experienced online university,” she said.
“Charles Sturt University has 100 per cent online courses to get you where you want to go, from short courses to full bachelor’s and master’s degrees.”
The main expo hub will be held in the courtyard of the new 802 building, while information sessions will be held in building 801 and 802.
The grassed area and basketball courts will play host to entertainment and activities, including a live DJ, as well as free coffee from resident brew mistress Commune Grounds Coffee Co and Round & Round, and other tasty offerings from Rotary Sunrise, Flamin’ Pizzas, Char Bar Catering and Blue Cow Gelato Cart.
There will be self-guided tours available at the Shared Health Research and Education Centre (SHREC) and Munster St facilities, and guided tours of the campus, accommodation and learning facilities.
Students can also engage with local sporting clubs, including Tacking Point Thunder Hockey Club, Port Makos Touch Club and the Port Macquarie Basketball Association.
The University is prioritising the safety of attendees by putting multiple measures in place around hygiene and open spaces.
“We’re adhering to safe hygiene practices, encouraging social distancing, staggering times for pre-booked information sessions and tours, and monitoring numbers on campus to ensure we are well-positioned to provide the best experience possible,” Ms Wood-Foye said.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to campus on Sunday.”
