  • Charles Sturt University and Masaryk University (Czech Republic) in conjunction with IKEA and Skoda are delivering a webinar on the benefits of intersectionality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace on Thursday March 30

Businesses, government and the ‘for-purpose’ sector are invited to a free webinar where they will be privy to best-practice insights from Charles Sturt University and leading global businesses on the benefits of intersectionality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The webinar ‘Diversity & Inclusive Leadership: Doing Business Differently’ will be held on Thursday March 30 at 5pm AEST online and will run for approximately two hours.

Hosted by Charles Sturt, with guest speakers from global furniture giant IKEA and car manufacturer Skoda Auto a.s. (Skoda), participants will learn about new concepts in diversity and inclusion.

Associate Professor in Social Work and Human Services within the Charles Sturt School of Social Work and Arts Dr Cate Thomas said the webinar was a great opportunity to hear from global experts on the principals of intersectionality, diversity and inclusion.

“This webinar will showcase insights from leaders in intersectionality, diversity and inclusion from leading businesses and academics in different countries,” Dr Thomas said.

“It will outline how they have used these concepts to improve the culture in their workplaces, including access and inclusion for people from all walks of life.

“This in itself often boosts productivity and company advancements when people approach workplaces with an intersectional, diverse and inclusionary lens.”

Dr Thomas said participants would also hear firsthand how the application of these concepts may vary between countries.

“While there is universal understanding of general principals of intersectionality, diversity and inclusion, various countries have different ways of applying these concepts in their respective jurisdictions,” Dr Thomas said.

“For example, Australia has a lot of legislation to back up the application of concepts that fall within the banner of equal opportunity, which is less common in various other countries around the world.”

Participants will also have the opportunity of asking the experts questions in the panel discussion section.
