• Allied health students from the Lachlan, Forbes and Parkes Local Government Areas can access $60,000 in new scholarships

Prospective Charles Sturt University allied health students from the Lachlan, Forbes and Parkes Local Government Areas can now access up to $60,000 in scholarships funded by Three Rivers Department of Rural Health (DRH).

Three $20,000 Allied Health Pathways Scholarships will be available for students commencing their studies in 2024 in various health courses with a specific benefit to the rural communities in which they live.

Charles Sturt’s Three Rivers DRH Director Ms Christine Howard said Three Rivers DRH continues to see the positive impact of financial support offered to students from rural areas.

“The scholarships are intended to increase enrolment numbers in allied health courses from students originating from these LGAs and provide the necessary financial support for each successful applicant to study and complete their respective course,” Ms Howard said.

“By supporting aspiring individuals from the Lachlan, Forbes and Parkes areas to pursue a career in allied health, we are targeting some of the region’s most needed allied health professionals.”

To be eligible, students must live in the Lachlan, Forbes or Parkes LGAs and be enrolled as active students from session one in 2024 in one of the following undergraduate courses with Charles Sturt:

• Bachelor of Paramedicine
• Bachelor of Dental Science
• Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health)
• Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science
• Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
• Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
• Bachelor of Oral Health
• Bachelor of Pharmacy
• Bachelor of Physiotherapy
• Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine
• Bachelor of Social Work

The scholarships are provided by Charles Sturt University’s Three Rivers DRH, which is funded by the Australian Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program, and are open to all age groups, including school leavers and non-school leavers

The RHMT program aims to improve the recruitment and retention of nursing, midwifery, allied health and dentistry professionals in rural and remote Australia.

Students studying various health  courses may also be eligible for additional Three Rivers DRH support initiatives, such as subsidised accommodation, grants and travel support when undertaking clinical placement within the Three Rivers DRH footprint throughout their degree.
