Budding artists and those who want to learn from the masters, have arrived on the Bathurst Campus of Charles Sturt University this week for the annual Mitchell School of Creative Arts Summer School, 16-22 January.

Along with daily classes and workshops, participants in this year's school will have the rare opportunity to attend an exclusive showing of the latest touring exhibition at the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, Cinderella's Gems.

The exhibition features works from nine Australian University art collections, including watercolours by Sydney master Rah Fizelle and lithographs by Frank Hinder from the Charles Sturt University Collection.

Renowned artists Ross Paterson and Greg Hansell, join the Mitchell School as tutors for the first time, alongside returning artists such as Jan Vincent, Joceylyn Maughan, Ian Chapman and John Wilson.

Special guest artist at this year's school is Australian watercolour painter Rae Andrews, who has come from her home in Hawaii especially for the event and is a regular tutor at the school.

"Rae, who has made a professional career out of painting after 15 years as a hairdresser in Sydney, is an inspiration to her students and very popular with many participants who come back year after year specially for her classes," said Creative Arts school coordinator Liz Willingham.

Twenty classes will run throughout the week, including watercolour technique, painting landscapes in oils, drawing, portrait painting and pastel painting.

An exhibition of the tutoring artist's work will be held in the CSU Dining Room and is open to the public from Monday to Friday this week, between 9am and 5pm.

The public are also invited to an exhibition of student works on display this Friday 21 January, in Building S1, from 6pm.
