1 JANUARY 2003

Some of the more than 100 000 graduates of CSU will celebrate their achievements and the University's success when they gather for an alumni cocktail party as part of 'CSU Week' at NSW Parliament House on Thursday evening, 3 April.

Ms Linda Burney, MLA and NSW Minister for Fair Trading, Youth and Volunteering, and Professor Ian Goulter, Vice-Chancellor and President of Charles Sturt UniversitySome of the more than 100 000 graduates of Charles Sturt University (CSU) will celebrate their achievements and the University’s success when they gather for an alumni cocktail party as part of ‘CSU Week’ at NSW Parliament House on Thursday evening, 3 April.

The Hon. Linda Burney, MLA, is a CSU graduate who will be one of the hosts of the CSU alumni cocktail party at Parliament House. Ms Burney is Minister for Fair Trading, Youth, and Volunteering in the present NSW Labor government.

“I am delighted to welcome CSU graduates to Parliament House,” Ms Burney said. “I studied education at CSU and recognise how important it is for individuals and for society.”

Alumni co-hosts of the cocktail party include Mr Angelos Frangopolous, who is currently Chief Executive Officer of Sky News, one of Australia’s leading news networks, and Dr Peter Hayes who is now President of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine. Dr Hayes is actively involved nationally and internationally in viticulture and agriculture consultancy.

More than 60 per cent of CSU graduates contribute to Australia’s inland communities through their work as teachers, nurses, journalists, pharmacists, accountants, police officers, ministers of religion, social workers, IT professionals, physiotherapists and other allied health workers.

Because CSU insists that its programs are nationally accredited, many others work around the nation and internationally in leadership and creative roles.

CSU is the first university invited to feature its work at NSW Parliament House. ‘CSU Week’ began on Monday 31 March. The week has featured a display about CSU, luncheons, special guest lectures, the launch of the CSU Centre for Indigenous Studies, as well as the CSU alumni cocktail party.

The work of photographic students and staff from the University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts will also feature in a special display that tells the story of CSU and its role in the lives of our inland communities.

Dignitaries attending CSU Week include the Member for Bathurst, Mr Gerard Martin, MLA, the Chancellor of CSU, Mr Lawrie Willett, AO, and the Vice-Chancellor and President of CSU, Professor Ian Goulter.
