Charles Sturt University (CSU) will host a visit by a delegation from German and Austrian universities on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 March as a result of an agreement CSU signed last year with the European Study Centre in Bretten (ESCB), Germany.

 

CSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Goulter, said that the delegation’s visit to the University’s Bathurst Campus was a welcome sign that the 2006 agreement signed with the ESCB will enable CSU to deliver courses in Europe and promote student exchange between Bretten and CSU.

 

“The visit by the delegation from Germany and Austria is the next step in the development of the University’s profile in Europe, and demonstrates that CSU is committed to developing its role internationally,” Professor Goulter said.

 

The University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Ross Chambers (Academic) and Professor Lyn Gorman (Administration) are hosting the delegation’s visit.

  

Professor Chambers explained that in the discussions that led up to the agreement, the ESCB expressed a desire to develop arrangements that would allow German university students to study for part of their qualification in Australia, both as single session study abroad or full-year study as part of a ‘double degree’ arrangement, where students gain two qualifications, one from each institution.

 

“The aim of the visit is to identify opportunities for ‘double degree’ arrangements in undergraduate courses as well as explore ways in which joint masters and doctoral programs could be established,” Professor Chambers said.

 

“During the visit CSU staff from several faculties will give presentations and participate in discussions about the possibilities for higher degree study through coursework or research, with CSU supervising visiting research students,” he said.
