An invaluable resource used by Australian students considering a career in advertising or public relations is going international. Charles Sturt University’s (CSU) School of Communication iDay07 will be held next month in Malaysia.
Hosted by the Institute of Advertising and Communication Training (IACT) in Kuala Lumpur, and organised by Mr Rod McCulloch, CSU senior lecturer in advertising, iDay07 is an event designed to bring CSU and its international award-winning School of Communication to Malaysian students.
“CSU’s School of Communication has launched the careers of many highly successful advertising and public relations executives who now work across Australia and overseas,” Mr McCulloch said.
“The purpose of iDay07 is to help students who have completed their IACT diplomas to gain their communications degree at a university that is not only recognised as a leading communication education provider, but has an excellent record when it comes to the all-important criteria of graduate employment.
“CSU was the first to develop Communication as a degree program in Australia and the School of Communication has maintained its position with its distinctive, vocationally orientated courses in the specialist disciplines of Advertising, Public Relations and Organisational Communication. These courses are considered among the best within industry circles.
“Our courses work closely with and enjoy very strong support from Australian and international industry bodies and the professions we serve. Our graduates are highly sought after and our students have won many international awards,” Mr McCulloch said.
iDay07 will cover topics such as choosing the right course, course entry requirements and career prospects as a CSU graduate, as well as providing information about living and studying on CSU’s Bathurst Campus. It will also provide the opportunity to hear from current and past communication students.
Mitchell Shaddock attended CSU’s first iDay which was held at the Powerhouse Museum Sydney in 2005. He is now in his second year of the double degree Bachelor of Arts (Communication – Public Relations & Organisational Communication/Bachelor of Business Studies).
“Being able to talk to the course coordinator and hear about his experience and what he has done in the field was a huge influence in my choosing Charles Sturt University. I didn’t know much about the University but I had my mind set on coming here because I liked the sound of the course. Going to iDay really confirmed my thoughts,” Mitchell said.
