A group of Charles Sturt University students will open an exhibition in Albury next week showing how youth and older people mix in the communities of regional Australia.
Held as part of the Second National Rural Conference on Ageing, the third year photography students have produced over 50 photographic works and digital images for the exhibition titled Creating a society for all ages - The Art of Ageing, which will open in the Wilson St Gallery on Monday 5 July.
The exhibition features images showing emotion, wisdom and movement, as well as how older people relate as couples, family and friends. (Examples can be seen at the Ageing Conference website.)
Student Danielle Cockerell's works focus on active seniors. "For example, I used images of a champion weightlifter and a regular aerobics goer to show one perspective of ageing. Other students showed the way society views older people and how they see modern life," said Danielle.
All works in the exhibition are also part of a photographic competition, with the winner, who will receive $100, to be announced on Thursday evening, 8 July, during the opening reception for the conference.
Working in conjunction with the CSU's School of Community Health, the exhibition is part of celebrations for the 1999 International Year of the Older Person. The exhibition will open daily until Friday 18 July, between 10.00 am and 4:00 pm.
