Charles Sturt University (CSU) Winery has unveiled a new look highlighting old roots, with a series of labels depicting the journeys of Captain Charles Sturt and the rivers of the region.

 

The labels will feature on the Winery’s Reserve and Charles Sturt ranges, and were officially launched at CSU in Bathurst recently.

 

CSU Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Andrew Vann, said Sturt’s journeys 180 years ago encapsulated the spirit of exploration that the University aims to capture.

 

“The label connects us to the place that we call home and the heartland of the University,” he said.

 

“The Charles Sturt University Winery sources all fruit from the University vineyards in Wagga Wagga and Orange, supplemented with fruit from wine regions within what could be described as the University footprint.

 

“The Charles Sturt University Winery and the wines it produces are ambassadors for the University, putting the University name in stores, in bars, on restaurant tables and in homes of people who may not otherwise have known us.”

 

CSU Wines marketing manager Mr Justin Byrne said, “The University has been growing grapes, making wine and making winemakers since 1977”.

 

“At Charles Sturt University Winery, we grow, make and sell our own ranges of top-quality wines,” he said.

 

“We work closely with the CSU School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences, which does the teaching, and the National Wine Grape Industry Centre, which manages a wide range of research projects.

 

“Our Winery in Wagga Wagga includes two production facilities – our commercial winery and an experimental winery which our students use. The commercial winery is run by the general manager and winemaker, Mr Andrew Drumm, and the quality of the product is exemplified by our 2009 Reserve Sparkling which recently won the Best Sparkling trophy at the National Boutique Wine Awards.”

 

Charles Sturt Wines are widely available in Sydney, Melbourne and country areas in New South Wales and Victoria. We also operate two Cellar Doors, at CSU in Wagga Wagga and CSU in Orange.

Charles Sturt University Winery was rated four and a half star (out of a possible 5) in James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2012.
