The fellowships are offered to professional artists and arts and cultural workers based in regional NSW for projects to develop skills in their chosen field.

Mr Deusien said he was very grateful for the fellowship and it offered a wonderful opportunity for him to help develop the arts in the region.

"It is an honour and a privilege to be awarded this hotly contested fellowship," Mr Deusien said.

"I am very excited to be given the opportunity to develop my own skills and those of the many talented performers in Bathurst and regional NSW. There is such a rich cultural life here and so much potential, I want to be a part of that."

Mr Deusien graduated from CSU with a Bachelor of Communication (Theatre Media) seven years ago. He then secured a creative internship to work with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre in Brisbane. Working with third-year theatre/media students at CSU in May this year he directed a re-worked version of The Bacchae by ancient Greek playwright Euripides.

The BacchaeHead of the CSU School of Communication and Creative Industries, Associate Professor Chika Anyanwu, said he was very pleased and proud that Mr Deusien, an alumnus of the School as well as a current staff member, had achieved such a prestigious award in his early career.

"This is wonderful news and I congratulate Adam on this well-deserved fellowship," Professor Anyanwu said. "It is recognition of both his past contribution to the performing arts in the region and of his potential contribution to develop other young talent and to provide engaging entertainment for the community."

The NSW Regional Arts Fellowship will enable Mr Deusien to present workshops in regional NSW and develop new theatrical works. He will also undertake placements at Griffin Theatre Company in Sydney, and with the Déda Derbyshire Youth Dance Company in the UK.
