For 18-year-old Stuart Dundas, of Faulconbridge, NSW, starting university this month will be particularly exciting.
Stuart will start his Bachelor of Nursing / Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) double degree at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Bathurst $20 000 richer after winning the University’s ‘You + CSU’ competition.
Penning and performing a rap song about his dream CSU experience, Stuart was judged the winner of the competition and was named the CSU Digital Ambassador for 2012.
Having just graduated from Springwood High School, Stuart first heard about the competition when his brother, also a CSU student, sent him a link to it and encouraged him to enter.
“I thought I may as well give it a try,” he said.
“I looked at some of the entries and looked at some other competitions and people generally like ones that were easy to watch and were funny and clever, so I thought I might write something funny.”
Stuart, known as Hooch to his friends, has close ties with CSU.
“Pretty much all my family went to Charles Sturt University, I have a few friends going out there, and I've been there before a few times and it seems like a good uni.
“I’m looking forward to making a whole lot of new friends and studying something I'm really interested in.”
As well as starting his studies, Stuart is keen to kick off his role as CSU Digital Ambassador 2012.
“I’d like to portray what living and studying at CSU is all about, showing people all that can be done there. I’ll be blogging about living on campus and all the events at the uni.”
Stuart said his $20 000 winnings will make his first year of study much more manageable.
