Students across Australia will benefit from a Charles Sturt University decision at the end of 2001 to widen study choices for its students in conjunction with TAFE institutes.

Some courses completed at an institute of TAFE can now be acknowledged on a CSU student’s final transcript of results and the final transcript on graduating from the University.

Head of CSU’s School of Business based in Albury-Wodonga, Dr Michael O’Mullane, was enthusiastic about the change, which will offer students formal recognition of TAFE studies within the University’s Bachelor of Business degree.

“The change arose following discussions between the CSU School of Business in Albury-Wodonga and Wodonga Institute of TAFE that centred on a desire to allow students enrolled in CSU business courses to undertake hospitality studies at Wodonga TAFE,” Dr O’Mullane said.

“The joint enrolment will be recognised in the title of the degree, clearly showing the student’s qualifications to employers.”

The policy will apply to courses offered at Certificate Level 4 or higher if the courses are approved as part of CSU courses.

“Tourism and hospitality are the largest employers in Australia. This innovation will help regional students combine studies in a professionally focused business degree with practical hospitality subjects from TAFE, widening their job prospects and better preparing graduates for professional work and management responsibilities,” Dr O’Mullane said.
