- Charles Sturt supports events to promote STEM-focussed subjects and careers
- Sponsorship of $2,000 each plus practical expert support to six events in Young, Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, and Kempsey
- CSU Engineering offers a radically different approach to undergraduate engineering education
Charles Sturt University is sponsoring six ‘Science and Engineering Challenge 2020’ events across NSW to support regional high school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The Charles Sturt sponsorship consists of $2,000 to each of the six organising committees, and a representative from CSU Engineering will provide expert assistance at each event.
Foundation Professor of Engineering in the Charles Sturt Engineering program Euan Lindsay (pictured) said, “Charles Sturt University recognises STEM subjects and careers are vitally important to our future.
“The ‘Science and Engineering Challenge 2020’ events are fun and stimulating for the students, and aim to encourage students in Years 8 to 10 to study STEM subjects.
“We hope the students will progress to studying with Charles Sturt University as a springboard for a career in engineering across Australia and around the world, because engineers are needed everywhere.
“Our students understand that CSU Engineering offers a radically different approach to undergraduate engineering education that focuses on human-centred engineering and diverse opportunities for students to explore authentic problems.”
The ‘Science and Engineering Challenge’ events in Young, Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, and Kempsey are organised by the University of Newcastle and local committees with support from service organisations, such as Rotary or Lions Clubs, that assist to the run the events and feed the students on the day.
The ‘Science and Engineering Challenge 2020’ events are:
- Young on Tuesday 3 March
- Wagga Wagga on Thursday 5 March
- Bathurst on Tuesday 31 March
- Dubbo from Tuesday 31 March to Friday 3 April
- Orange on Thursday 2 April
