A host of academic and student services information sessions and social activities will be held both on-campus and in the cities of Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga from Monday 24 to Friday 28 February.

Approximately 2,896 on-campus students have been accepted to commence their studies with Charles Sturt in 2020, in addition to a further 5,302 new online students.

The total acceptances of 8198 is an increase of more than 550 students on 2019’s figure.

Charles Sturt Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Ms Jenny Roberts said the programs of orientation events across the University’s campuses are designed to reflect the changing nature of the on-campus experience for commencing students.

“The orientation days will provide a cohesive and streamlined experience for our commencing students, with a focus on course-based activities and core information,” Ms Roberts said.

“The University has gone to great lengths to offer campus-specific schedules with flexibility to facilitate the delivery of useful and engaging activities for our students.

“Charles Sturt University looks forward to welcoming these students and helping them start their studies on the right foot.”

The orientation days will be held on the following dates:

  • Albury-Wodonga: Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 February
  • Bathurst: Monday 24 to Friday 28 February
  • Dubbo: Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 February
  • Orange: Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 February
  • Port Macquarie: Tuesday 25 to Friday 28 February

The sessions and events offered across the orientation days fall into three categories:

  • Academic: meeting course directors and other academic staff, overviews of course requirements, first class checklists.
  • Services and support sessions: discovering support available to help students boost study skills, manage finances, look after their health and more.
  • University life: a range of social activities designed to build friendships and social networks.

Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement for Orange and Bathurst Ms Julia Andrews said orientation days were an important milestone for commencing students and part of an ongoing process offered by the University.

“Charles Sturt University maintains a schedule of support activities and workshops and organised social events throughout the first session of study,” Ms Andrews said.

“Social events are community focused, and aim to connect the students with both the campus as well as with the broader community in which they will be residing for the next three or more years.

“We look forward to meeting our newest students and making sure they feel ready and equipped for their first days of tertiary study.”
