Charles Sturt University (Charles Sturt) in Port Macquarie continues its support of youth excellence programs on the Mid North Coast through its support for Litfest,Luminosityand Picture Justice Australia.

Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement Kate Wood-Foye said the University supported these programs to foster the development of excellence amongst youthin the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.

“Part of our role as a University is to engage and support our community, which is why we are proud to support these diverse yet complimentary programs that encourage young people to gain knowledge and experience in an exciting non-traditional learning environment.” Ms Wood-Foye said.

Charles Sturt Lecturer in Graphic Design, Willhemina Wahlin, who will present a visual storytelling workshop at Litfest and is running Picture Justice Australia, said the programs were a great opportunity to engage with youth.

“Being involved in youth development programs is a wonderful opportunity to connect with young people and show them the opportunities that the creative industries provide.”

“Programs such as Litfest, Luminosity and Picture Justice Australia are unique opportunities for young people in regional NSW, giving them access to experts and learning that is more readily available in metro areas,” Dr Wahlin said.

Dr Wahlin, who is coordinating Picture Justice Australia, is particularly excited because it is the first time the program has been run outside of the United States. “Charles Sturt is playing a major role in bringing valuable expertise to Port Macquarie, as well as connecting young people to experts from the region.

“We’ve gathered together an amazing group of experts to deliver a program that aims to inspire young people, and expand their storytelling and problem-solving skills,” said Dr Wahlin.

The Picture Justice Australia program is open to high school students from years 9 to 12 and young people up to 25 years whether they attended the University or not with applications closing 31 May.
