Charles Sturt University Vice-Chancellor has welcomed the recent announcement of an inquiry into Australia's higher education sector by Federal Minister for Education and Workplace Relations, The Hon. Julia Gillard.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ian Goulter, has welcomed the recent announcement of an inquiry into Australia’s higher education sector by Federal Minister for Education and Workplace Relations, The Hon. Julia Gillard.

“With around 20 years having passed since the [former Federal Education Minister] Dawkin’s reforms of higher education, it is timely for the Commonwealth to undertake a thorough and meaningful review of the structure and funding of higher education in Australia,” Professor Goulter said.

“We applaud the commitment of the Minister to ensuring that all universities are world class. Delivering a world-class education is a common goal of Australian universities and one which is well served across our institutions.”

Professor Goulter is keen to ensure the review is inclusive of the needs of all Australians.

“In conducting the review, the Government must identify a full range of meaningful indicators of performance that are relevant to advancing the national interest and those of the community.

“Academic programs of Australian universities must be world-class and they must also support the achievement of real outcomes for the national economy and all Australians, irrespective of where they live and work.”
