Acting Vice-Chancellor and President of Charles Sturt University (CSU), Professor Ross Chambers, today (Tuesday 9 June) praised current and former members of the CSU community who have been recognised in the Queen’s Honours list for 2009.
“The Australian community is all the richer for the contributions of these community leaders who embody the spirit and ethos of Charles Sturt University that is so richly illustrated by our motto, ‘for the public good’,” Professor Chambers said.
The awardees from CSU include:
- Professor Clive Hamilton, with the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics [link http://www.cappe.edu.au/ ] in Canberra, who was made a Member of the Order of Australia ‘for service to public debate and policy development, particularly in the fields of climate change, sustainability and societal trends’;
- Mr Stan Grant, of Narrandera, who was made a Member of the Order of Australia ‘for service to Indigenous education and the preservation and promotion of the Wiradjuri language and culture, as a teacher and author, and to youth’;
- Emeritus Professor Bruce Mansfield, in Sydney, who was made a Member of the Order of Australia ‘for service to education as an administrator and academic in the fields of theology and history’; and,
- Professor Bruce Pennay, with the CSU School of Environmental Sciences [link http://www.csu.edu.au/faculty/science/ses/ ] in Albury, who received a Medal of the Order of Australia ‘for service to the community of the Albury-Wodonga region, particularly through the establishment of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre Heritage Park’, near Wodonga, Vic.
