5 OCTOBER 2011

CSU is aware of the public inquiry being conducted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption known as Operation Jarek.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) is aware of the public inquiry being conducted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) known as Operation Jarek.

A University spokesperson today confirmed that the University was contacted by ICAC on 29 March 2011 in relation to certain allegations regarding a company that is currently subject to public inquiries at the Commission.

The University has been in communication with the ICAC and has today been advised that the Commission will not be seeking any finding of corrupt conduct in relation to the matter.

The University spokesperson said CSU has clear policies covering the receipt of gifts by staff and treats these matters seriously.

Where a concern is raised regarding the conduct of a member of staff, these matters are investigated under the University’s policies.

Where allegations of corruption are raised with the University, or through ICAC, the University investigates these matters under the oversight of ICAC.

Where matters have been raised in the past, they have been resolved to the satisfaction of the Commission and the University.

The University strongly supports the role of the Commission.
