University students on the Mid-North Coast of NSW will soon have more opportunity to study locally through Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Port Macquarie.
CSU will offer four additional undergraduate degrees in Port Macquarie in 2013.
From the beginning of next year, students will be able to undertake a Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic), Bachelor of Justice Studies (Policing) and Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging).
That’s in addition to the pathway programs in accounting, creative industries, health and rehabilitation science and social work already offered in conjunction with North Coast TAFE.
The new Head of CSU in Port Macquarie, Professor Ross Chambers said the University is pleased to offer Mid-North Coast students the option of studying a Bachelor degree in their own community.
The 2013 offerings will include courses linked to the Ambulance Services and NSW Police Force, as well as health services and the business community.
“These courses are available for full-time study on campus in Port Macquarie for school leavers and others.
“The University aims to increase higher education participation rates by making sure our courses meet the needs of local students and their community.
“Charles Sturt University is committed to enhancing higher educational opportunities for the Mid-North Coast. Our vision is to grow to around 5 000 students in Port Macquarie in the next 10 to 15 years,” Professor Chambers said.
Independent Member for Lyne Mr Rob Oakeshott MP has welcomed the announcement.
“The four new courses on offer from Charles Sturt University demonstrate they are here to stay, and want to grow,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“I invite the community to engage in any of the eight exciting and career-developing courses on offer in 2013, and I congratulate those who already have.”
Mid-North Coast students can also apply for early entry to CSU degrees through CSU’s Principal’s Report Entry Program (PREP), a scheme designed for students from high schools in non metropolitan areas in NSW, ACT and Victoria.
