The conference, Policing and Security in Practice: Then, Now and Into the Future, will be held on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November and will focus on innovations in police education, new directions in policing research and practice, future police leadership, and social networking and cybercrime.
Head of School of Policing Studies and Acting Sub-Dean (Policing) Associate Professor Dr Rosemary Woolston said the not-for-profit event was designed to bring together experts and practitioners in the field to exchange ideas about policing practice.
“The conference will showcase examples of best practice and research in policing and security,” she said.
“It aims to provide an opportunity for people interested in the practice of policing and security to come together to discuss emerging trends and issues, and the latest research.
“A collection of the proceedings will then be published as journal articles in a special issue of Salus Journal, a peer-reviewed, on-line journal of public safety published by the University’s Faculty of Arts.”
NSW Police Commissioner Mr Andrew Scipione APM will be one of several high-profile experts to feature as keynote speakers during the two-day event.
Other speakers will include former Head of the Olympic Intelligence Centre and former CEO of the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency Ms Sue Wilkinson QPM, and former Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mr Mick Keelty.
Social researcher and author Mr Hugh Mackay, Associate Professor with CSU’s Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security Nick O’Brien, Canadian Senator and former Chief of Police Ottawa and former Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Mr Vernon White and Professor Colin Rogers from the University of South Wales also feature on the program.
Abstracts of no more than 250 words for papers to be presented at Conference are now being sought. Papers showcasing initiatives in policing and related to the conference themes are encouraged. Practitioners and researchers are invited to submit here before Sunday 25 August
An additional two day program is available for international delegates here.
