Senior officers from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will join Charles Sturt University (CSU) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Ken Dillon and senior CSU staff to celebrate the growing relationship between both organisations at the inaugural graduation for five Defence Investigators in Goulburn on Tuesday 10 June.

Professor Dillon said this ceremony signals the culmination of significant planning to CSU and ADF staff to upgrade the education of its Defence Investigators to meet the challenges of policing in modern military forces.

"CSU has developed an international reputation in policing education, with CSU degrees and short-term courses offered face-to-face and by distance education throughout Asia, the Middle East and in North America. Our growing relationship with the Australian Defence Force highlights our expertise."

Senior repesentatives attending the ceremony will include Head of ADF's Military Strategic Commitments, Rear Admiral Trevor Jones, AO, CSC, Director General Select Strategic Issues Management, Brigadier Mark Holmes, MVO and Provost Marshal ADF Captain Bryan Parker, RAN.

For the past two years, military investigators from the ADF have enrolled in the University's Diploma of Policing Investigations to develop their knowledge and skills in criminal investigation.

Course coordinator Ms Amber McKinley said the course, offered by distance education, is well suited the dispersed nature of the students from the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Regular Army, and Royal Australian Air Force, who were deployed around Australia or serving overseas while they undertook the course.

"However, the students particularly enjoyed the residential classes and the robust discussions on policing investigations in the military and broader community.

"The course allows them to develop their research and critical thinking skills and expand their understandings of the social and professional issues affecting the broader policing community."

The ceremony commences at 11.15 am on Tuesday 10 June at the NSW Police Academy, CSU in Goulburn, Goulburn.
