Charles Sturt University management met with student representatives from the School of Communication today, Thursday 13 June, to discuss their concerns.

The University is currently reviewing the general staff establishment of the School to ensure it works within a given budget. No decisions have yet been made during the current consultation period in the review process.

The review of the School’s general staffing is part of a broad process that includes consideration of the School’s courses. The University has committed to external expert advice on the courses to ensure continued industry relevance and high employability for graduates. Students will be given opportunities to provide input during this process.

The student request for an independent review of two schools, the School of Communication in Bathurst and the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Wagga Wagga, was rejected.

Senior management reaffirmed their support for and commitment to the School of Communication but emphasised the need for management to work within available budget in a climate of ongoing government cuts.
