Australian universities should play a central role in promoting reconciliation and social justice through education to meet the needs of Indigenous Australians, according to a CSU academic.

Charles Sturt University has welcomed the announcement by the Rudd federal government of 35 new Commonwealth supported early childhood education places at the University in 2009.

CSU has received a record number of applications for distance education study in its paramedic course which leads to a career as a paramedic. Annual surveys have regularly rated paramedics as 'the most trusted profession'.

Research conducted by the Western Research Institute at CSU shows that the majority of accountants trained at the University choose to remain in regional Australia after they graduate, and many of those who move away return later seeking a quality of life they knew they enjoyed and could find again in the country.
