Charles Sturt University (CSU) welcomes Professor John Germov as its Provost, Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on 5 November.
CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Vann said the University was delighted to welcome Professor Germov.
“He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in regional education and communities,” Professor Vann said.
“Professor Germov will be a significant contributor to the University in the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic. He will lead the Faculties to shape our education and research programs to meet the changing needs and expectations of students and our communities,” Professor Vann said.
Professor Germov brings to CSU and its communities a passion for the transformational impact of university education, especially its role in transforming regions, widening participation, and creating an informed citizenry with a cosmopolitan outlook.
Professor Germov says increasing university participation in our regions is a priority.
“The impact of having a university educated workforce in regional areas is well-known. However, intensified competition across the sector will require greater focus on providing an exceptional student experience through research-informed teaching, technology-enhanced learning, and expanded mobility, extra-curricular and internship opportunities.”
An active researcher, Professor Germov has also contributed significantly to public debate in the broad area of the social determinants of health.
“I am particularly excited to be involved in the Joint Program in Medicine between Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University, with a focus on improving the health of regional and rural communities,” Professor Germov said.
