For a student studying two degrees simultaneously, Laurence Ioannou believes his Mitchell Foundation Trust scholarship means the difference between working part-time or devoting time to his studies during holidays.

Laurence, who is studying pre-hospital care and computer science (games technology) is one of 96 students who will receive a Mitchell Foundation Scholarship at the Charles Sturt University Bathurst Campus Scholarship Ceremony this Friday, 24 May.

He will receive his award at the final ceremony to be officiated by President of the Mitchell Foundation Trust, Ron Camplin, who is retiring after 20 years of service to the Foundation.

During this time, the Foundation has provided more than $2 million to further the study opportunities of more than 1 000 students, recognised for academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.

Head of the Bathurst Campus, Dr Peter Hodgson, paid tribute to Mr Camplin’s support and service.

“Ron is a man of commitment, passion and dedication. It was the vision and dedication of people such as Ron Camplin from the Bathurst community that gave rise to the CSU Foundation,” Dr Hodgson said.

For the first time,12 scholarships worth $5 000 each, will be awarded to honours students, to encourage research on the Bathurst Campus.

1994 National Australia Bank Scholarship recipient, Adele Morey, will share her experiences with the scholars. Ms Morey is currently completing a PhD in cultural studies at the Australian National University.

This year, the Mitchell Foundation Trust welcomes the support from 21 new members, each contribution assisting the work of the Mitchell Foundation Trust to support students in their University studies and to support other activities at the University.

The ceremony commences at 3pm in the C D Blake Auditorium on the Bathurst Campus.
