The Wagga Wagga Campus of Charles Sturt University will say farewell to the University’s first Chancellor, Mr David Asimus AO, and his wife Jane, during a farewell and an official University dinner on Tuesday 26 November.

The Wagga Wagga Campus of Charles Sturt University (CSU) will say farewell to the University’s first Chancellor, Mr David Asimus AO, and his wife Jane, during a farewell and an official University dinner on Tuesday 26 November.

He will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate at a special ceremony at Joyes Hall from 3.30pm, in recognition of his contribution to the University and its communities.

A plaque will also be unveiled during the ceremony, naming two historical buildings on the CSU Wagga Wagga Campus, as David Asimus Court.

Mr Asimus was appointed CSU’s foundation Chancellor in 1989 when the University was established. He retires from the position at the end of this month.

CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter said the Chancellor had been an exceptional advocate for regional and rural Australia and would be sorely missed.

“Mr Asimus has provided exemplary stewardship for the University during his time as Chancellor. He has been a strong and vocal supporter for regional universities such as CSU.  His greatest legacy to CSU will be the partnership that he developed with the foundation Vice-Chancellor, Professor C D Blake and history will show that it was during his tenure as Chancellor that CSU developed from two colleges of advanced education to being adjudged Australia’s University of the Year in 1997,” Professor Goulter said.

The dinner will provide senior University staff from the Wagga Wagga Campus and other members of the community with an opportunity to express their appreciation to both Mr Asimus and his wife, Jane.
