Charles Sturt University is welcoming 8,500 new students for orientation as the new academic year begins.
Enrolments for session one of 2026 have been strong across key cohorts, with oncampus and undergraduate student numbers both increasing by more than 200 on last year.
First Nations enrolments have increased by more than 100 students, underscoring the University’s commitment to widening access to higher education for all Australians.
Charles Sturt Vice-Chancellor Professor Renée Leon said the growth areas were a reflection of the University’s nation-leading graduate employment outcomes.
“Students know that Charles Sturt is the number one public university in Australia for undergraduate employment, which is why they want to study with us,” Professor Leon said.
“Our students enjoy a supportive learning environment and industry-aligned courses, which creates graduates who are highly skilled and highly sought-after.”
Professor Leon said the University remained committed to its mission of educating the next generation of professionals for regional communities.
“Charles Sturt continues to play a pivotal role in addressing regional Australia’s workforce needs,” Professor Leon said.
“The expertise which regional towns, cities and communities are crying out for aligns with our most popular courses for new students in 2026, including nursing, teaching, social work and paramedicine.
“More than 70 per cent of our graduates go on to work in the regions, which means that many students starting their Charles Sturt journeys today will go on to provide the skilled workforce regional Australia needs.”
