Charles
Sturt University's (CSU) Ms Liz Smith is living proof that the University's
sustainability strategy, CSU Green, is working.
Until a few months ago Ms Smith, who is the Director of Academic Success in the Office for Students in Bathurst, didn't own a bike.
Now she's part of a CSU sponsored team that's preparing to ride from Sydney to Wollongong in the charity MS Sydney to the Gong bike ride event on Sunday 6 November 2016.
"I was actually inspired by Charles Sturt University's Facilities Management Executive Director Steve Butt, who arrived at a meeting one day on a CSU Green bike," said Ms Smith.
"I work in a great team and we're always on the lookout for ways to encourage a healthy and fun workplace, so we took delivery of a CSU Green bike for our office."
Further encouraged by workmates, Ms Smith bought her own bike, and together with her colleague from CSU's Division of Marketing and Communication Ms Donna Bateup (both pictured), signed on for the MS Gong Ride to help raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis research.
"Our team captain is a young mum who was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. If she can do it, so can I," she said.
"This will be a huge challenge for us. We won't break any speed records but are aiming to raise $10,000. We hope the Charles Sturt University community will get behind us to support this great event and cause" said Ms Smith.
CSU is sponsoring Ms Liz Smith and the CSU team in the MS Gong ride on 9 November.
Donations can be made to the team here.
