The delegation, which includes two university Presidents and three Deputy Directors requested the visit as a goodwill gesture. They represent the Tianjin University of Commerce, the Yunnan University of Economics and Finance, and the Changchun Taxation College. All three are CSU strategic partners for the delivery of business studies courses to international students overseas.
“I think it’s significant that our partner institutions are prepared to come and see what Charles Sturt University looks like and meet with our senior executives,” said Dean of the CSU Faculty of Commerce Professor John Hicks.
“The programs we are now presenting in China are quite novel and we are trying a very different approach in terms of off-shore education in which we will have a much greater say, particularly in the last year of a student’s education,” added Professor Hicks.
China is the world’s fastest-growing economy, and Professor Hicks stresses it’s “vitally” important that CSU has an involvement there. “For us to be a legitimate player on the international scene we need to have good working relationships with a whole range of Chinese institutions.”
The delegation will tour the University library, lecture theatres and art facilities, and meet with CSU staff ahead of a dinner on Monday night hosted by Chancellor Lawrie Willett.
The delegates are Professor Liu Shuhan (President) and Professor Liu Yuhong (Deputy Director, Academic Research) from Tianjin University of Commerce, Professor Duan Maosen (Deputy President) and Professor Yan Gang (Director, International Office) from Yunnan University of Economics and Finance, and Professor Jin Shuo (President) from Changchun Taxation College.
