A new agreement between Charles Sturt University (CSU) and the Army Recruit Training Centre (ARTC) Kapooka aims to enhance soldier recruit training in Australia.
A program has been specifically developed by the University’s School of Education for training personnel, such as instructors, assessors and supervisors, at ARTC Kapooka near Wagga Wagga.
The Associate Degree in Adult and Vocation Education is being offered to Kapooka training personnel by distance education from the School of Education at CSU in Wagga Wagga.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed by CSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Vann, and Kapooka Commandant, Colonel David Hay, later this year to mark the new program, which is the first of its kind.
Director of Vocational Education and Training courses at the CSU School of Education, Ms Wendy De Luca, who is also a Major in the Army Reserve in the Royal Australian Army Educational Corps, said, “This is a great professional development opportunity for the Army personnel.”
“We are planning for students drawn from Kapooka to start the Associate Degree in Adult and Vocation Education in the second session in July this year.
“This is one of several pathways open to defence personnel in recognition of their professional backgrounds and skills. Not only does a Charles Sturt University qualification make defence personnel more competitive in their current roles, it also enhances their future career options.”
Through its School of Education, CSU offers a range of courses in vocational education and training. Read more here.
