A record number of high school students from throughout southern New South Wales are expected to attend an expo at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Wagga Wagga on Wednesday 26 March as they contemplate careers as health professionals.

The 2003 Rural Health Career Pathways Expo will be a one-stop shop as “real life” health professionals, CSU academics, University and TAFE students gather under a single roof to inform more than 500 teenagers about careers in the health sector.

Through displays, demonstrations as well as individual and group talks, students from more than 30 high schools will be able to learn about studying and working in the fields of nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, indigenous health, speech pathology, dietetics, radiography as well as mental health, medical imaging and medical research.

Regular tours will be conducted throughout the day of CSU teaching laboratories on the Wagga Wagga Campus.

Information will also be available at the Expo on student services and the scholarships and financial assistance available to students during their studies.

Amid a high demand for health professionals across rural Australia, the Rural Health Career Pathways Expo is a joint initiative of Charles Sturt University, Greater Murray Health Area Service, TAFE Riverina Institute and the NSW Department of Education and Training.

The Expo will be held in Joyes Hall at CSU Wagga Wagga Campus from 10.00 am until
2 pm Wednesday 26 March 2003.
