Charles Sturt University (CSU) Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ian Goulter, welcomed the support of the Country Women’s Association of NSW for the University’s bid for $98 million in federal funding for a new integrated health and medical school in rural Australia.
“The Country Women’s Association of NSW is the leading voice for rural and regional NSW, and has a strong record of working to improve health and medical services for rural communities,” Professor Goulter said.
“This is an organisation that takes improving rural health services seriously. It has earned the lasting respect not only of rural people, but of all Australians concerned about fairness, equity, regional development and social inclusion.
“It is a powerful voice on behalf of rural communities, and now a powerful voice in support of Charles Sturt University’s efforts to offer a proven solution to the Government’s problem of increasing the number of doctors and health practitioners in rural practice,” Professor Goulter said.
The Country Women’s Association of NSW wrote to the Prime Minister last week strongly supporting CSU’s plans for a new medical program based in Orange and calling on the Prime Minister to personally support the initiative and ensure that the federal government does everything in its power to make it happen.
