Charles Sturt University reaffirmed its commitment to excellence in allied health professions in regional Australia with the opening of the Allied Health Clinic in Albury.

The facility will be officially opened at 10am on Wednesday 19 February by the University’s new Chancellor, Laurie Willett, AO, with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter and other senior CSU staff also attending.

Clinic staff will initially offer comprehensive podiatric services, with senior students closely supervised by qualified, experienced professional staff.

“The clinic will be an important part of the education provided to CSU’s podiatry students based at the Albury-Wodonga Campus,” said the new CSU podiatry course coordinator, Dr Paul Tinley.

“By training the regional and metropolitan students in a major regional centre such as Albury, we aim to encourage graduates to remain in regional Australia, serving the communities that they already know.”

The modern clinic, housed in the historic Adams Building on the University’s Albury City Campus, includes ten consultation rooms, a small surgical room, sterilisation room and a  gait analysis area, as well as the latest computerised booking systems.

“With around 70 per cent of graduates from the School of Community Health working in regional Australia, the clinic will help provide the training facilities to better serve these communities,” said Professor Gail Whiteford, Head of CSU’s School of Community Health.

The clinic will initially provide podiatric services, however the School of Community Health hopes other services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, healthy lifestyle education through the clinic.

The Allied Health Clinic will commence operations on Thursday 6 March. Appointments for podiatry services can be booked on telephone (02) 6051 6922.
