Indigenous business student awards 2015Indigenous students studying business online with Charles Sturt University (CSU) recently received academic achievement awards at a residential school in Bathurst.

The students, who are studying the Bachelor of Business (Management) and the Bachelor of Business Studies, came from across NSW, and from as far away as Queensland and the Northern Territory to attend the four-day residential school.

Dr Calvin Wang, course director in the Faculty of Business, said many of Indigenous students at CSU are mature-age and have careers as well as family and community responsibilities.

"They have to juggle multiple roles and commitments, but still keep on track with their studies," he said. "The great thing to observe is the mental change in many students who start the course saying, I hope I pass, but then quickly develop the confidence to aim for Distinction and High Distinction grades, and actually achieve them. That's why we acknowledge the hard work and stand-out performances with academic awards each year."

Certificates of Achievement were presented to Ms Holly May-Hoad, Ms Vanessa Sakal, and Ms Katrina Sing.

Ms May-Hoad also received a trophy for overall excellence said she enjoyed studying the Bachelor of Business (Management).

"I enjoy the variety of subjects that are studied during the course, and I believe the variety will assist in gaining future employment," Ms May-Hoad said. "The supportive environment in which this course is run has helped me achieve great results. The residential schools provide us with extra support when we need it most, at the beginning of session and also closer to end of session for support close to exams."
